======= Astral Projection =======

**??Astral Projection??** is a Level 1 [[Evocation]] that {{path>S1}} mages can cast for {{gems>2S}}, allowing them to [[Scrying|Scry]]. 

It's more-often-than-not worse than ??Astral Window??, because it has the same vulnerability as [[Mind Hunt]]; every turn, [[Astral]] mages in the province have a chance to identify the astral projection's silvery cord and cut it, [[afflictions|Feebleminding]] the caster. This abruptly ends the Scrying for that month.

  * {{path>S1}}'s have a 40% chance to spot you.
  * {{path>S2}}'s have an 80% chance to spot you.
  * {{path>S3}}'s and higher-level Astral Mages **will** spot you.

=== So why use it? ===

  - It requires less [[Research]]; so, for example, you can peek at your neighbors' progress earlier.
  - It has lower path requirements than the other Scrying spells, which require {{path>W2}} or {{path>S2}}.
    - If you notice the name of a non-Astral nation on the map early on, this can help you cheaply check for Astral Pretenders.
  - It's exactly {{gems>1S}} cheaper than Astral Window.
  - It works [[underwater]], unlike ??Scrying Pool??.
  - Its reach is exactly one province further than Astral Window, and two provinces further than Scrying Pool.
