An Elegist is better at getting their Pretender God released from the Underworld, or from whatever afterlife they're trapped in.
The point value of an Elegist is added to their Priest level for the purpose of Call God actions. For example, a 1 Priest without Elegist gets only 0-4% progress towards recalling them each turn, while a 3 Priest gets 4-8%. A 1 Priest with Elegist (2), such as a Gala of Ur, recalls just as competently as a 3 Priest without.
Merely being an Elegist doesn't let you do the Call God action: you must also have at least 1.
