Jomon has five curious spells that can only be used by Mage-Priests. The Holy levels are primary. Lore-wise, these are intended to be used by a ??Monk of the Fivefold Path??; or, to be more precise, each Monk of the Fivefold Path can cast //one// of these. They're rather poor at using these, though. As Divine Magic, the Signs accrue only base Spellcasting Encumbrance. | Jomon has five curious spells that can only be used by Mage-Priests. * **??Welcome Sign??** (Divine) \\ \\ **Extremely-short-range Charming with a base Penetration of 7.** This is of dubious utility, most interesting on ??Dai Oni?? thugs or suicidal counter-thugging Monks. In prior ages, where Javelin-tossers were ubiquitous, your average ??Monk of the Fivefold Path?? wouldn't have survived being within 5 squares of the enemy; fortunately, now they only have crossbows (and running ahead of their peers) to worry about. Still, you need a fair few casters to make up for this spell's low Penetration, and spamming Monks is difficult due to their Sacred status. | * **??Welcome Sign??** (Divine) \\ \\ **Extremely-short-range Charming with a base Penetration of 7.** This is of dubious utility, most interesting on ??Dai Oni?? thugs or suicidal counter-thugging Monks. * **??Fear-not Sign??** (Divine) \\ \\ **A short-ranged, small-AOE combination of ??Sermon of Courage?? and ??Air Shield??.** It's notably the only source of Air-Shielding underwater, in case you bump into Erytheian crossbowmen under the sea, and it technically scales better with level than ??Protective Winds??; a ??Dai Tengu?? gets the same AOE coverage from both spells, for example. Air Shield in general is very nice for Jomon, since the country lacks Shields for handling crossbow bolts. * **??Meditation Sign??** (Divine) \\ \\ **Removes around 15 Fatigue from the caster:** a pittance for a pittance. Your Monks won't get much from this Sign, unless you have Magic Scales that put spells under the tipping point, but their Communion Slaves (if you give them a ??Sky Metal Matrix??) will find it nice. It should be noted that mage AI doesn't handle Fatigue-reducers very well; if you want them to use this Sign, put it on their script. | * **??Meditation Sign??** (Divine) \\ \\ **Removes around 15 Fatigue from the caster:** a pittance for a pittance.
