A unit with Fear of the Flood is aware of their sinful existence on some level, and is thus afraid of a specific kind of divine retribution: the Great Flood in Genesis. Currently the only units with this fear are the the Nephilim, the Rephaim of Hinnom, the Anakim of Ashdod and Gath, and the "Lost Giants" of Ind, and Feminie; incidentally, none of these people know any Water magic. Fear of the Flood is a Morale penalty in effect whenever it Rains, and (somewhat ironically) when Underwater.

Interestingly, Illwinter tells a story of sorts with the differing values of the fear. The Nephilim have 10 points of it, since they are the direct products of sinful angels, and since their sinful proclivities are the strongest. The first Rephaim, direct descendants of them, were either taught the fear or taught not to have that fear, and thus have 5 points. The Rephaim of Ashdod view their decline as punishment enough and do not have the fear, but the Anakim still have some unholy strength and are thus stricken with 4 points; meanwhile, Ind's Giants have also been punished and kept their strength, so they have the same level of fear. In the Late Ages, Gath's Anakites of Gath return to Sin and their fear grows to 5 points, but Ind's Giants have remained somewhat repentant and are only 3 points fearful when Feminie releases them.
