Returning is a mechanism by which a commander can instantly leave the current battle and magically travel back to his home citadel. There is a chance that he might get lost on his travels, return on a later turn or pick up the insane trait, however this seems to very rare. (Test showed 120 out of 126 mages returning without any problem.)

Returning can be triggered by the Returning or Vortex of Returning spell, or once someone with the effect of a Ritual of Returning or wearing a Ring of Returning get's injured.
