| The **Undead** are beings who //should// be dead, but who aren't. Skeletons (??Longdead??), Zombies (??Soulless??), ??Wight??s... all are undead. All are considered abhorrent by the holy and sacred powers that be, for taking up space and resources meant for the living. | The **Undead** are beings brought back from the dead or summoned from the Underworld to serve in unlife. Undead creatures range from chaff such as ??Ghoul??s (zombies) and ??Longdead?? (skeletons), which can be summoned en masse to smother the battlefield, to powerful, immortal mages like ??Lich??es and ??Wraith Lord??s who can resurrect their own armies of undead. |

| Their bodies still work, but they need not function as one would expect to survive; that enough is clear. Their blood and organs (if they have any) are nominal, and a wide array of magic does not work on them. Disease may live in their bodies, but it does nothing to them. They Need Not Eat. | Being undead is typically associated with a number of other characteristics: |
| | * Poison Resistance 15 |
| | * Cold Resistance 25 |
| | * For non-Ghouls: Spirit Sight; for Ghouls: Darkvision 50% |
| | * Need not Eat |
| |
| Due to the disconnect between their bodies and their life forces (if they have any), the Undead don't qualify for Regeneration. They do have their own sort of Regeneration, though; this is known as Reforming Flesh. The Undead also can't Transform, and can't be saved by Luck. | =====Mechanics===== |
| |
| Quite a few spells cause the Undead problems. For example, Priests can use the ??Banishment?? spells to harm them. Some Nature and Death spells also interact with the Undead, and a couple of Elemental spells hammer them especially. | Undead creatures may become diseased, but they do not suffer any adverse affects from this and cannot become afflicted from disease. However, they also cannot have any afflictions they gain from battle healed by the Healer ability. The equivalent ability that works on undead is Corpse Stitcher, a fairly rare trait that is unique to the mages of LA Agartha and a few other independent mages.((Dominions 6 Manual, 40.)) |
| |
| To lead an Undead being into battle, **Undead Leadership** is required. These fellows are considered separate from regular units (and from Magic Beings), so a fellow with 100 Leadership and 50 Undead Leadership can technically lead 150 troops. | Many undead creatures, such as ??Longdead??, are also inanimate; in these cases, they cannot benefit from ordinary regeneration such as from the bless of the same name or ??Mass Regeneration??. However, the bless Reforming Flesh is regeneration that works on all undead, including inanimate ones.((Dominions 6 Manual, 39.)) |
| |
| * You can also mix Undead beings into the squads of regular units (if they're not Mindless), but there will be a **-1 Morale** penalty for the regular units. The Undead, and the dark incantations required to order them, are rather disquieting. | Several spells target undead specifically. For example, priests can use the ??Banishment?? spells to harm them. Some Nature and Death spells also target the undead, such as ??The Ravenous Swarm?? and ??Control the Dead??, making this tag a weakness in some circumstances. However, being undead also synergizes with other spells like ??Rigor Mortis??.((Dominions 6 Manual, 40.)) |
| |
| ==== Undead vs. Demon ==== | Undead can only be led by commanders with Undead Leadership. Undead are considered separate from regular units (and from magic beings), so a commander with 100 Leadership and 50 Undead Leadership can lead 100 ordinary troops and 50 undead simultaneously. Non-mindless undead can be combined into squads with regular units, but cause a -1 Morale penalty for the regular units. ((Dominions 6 Manual, 40.)) |
| |
| **Demons** are a special category of Undead. They are beings with perfectly functional bodies; they're just considered abhorrent by the holy and sacred powers because they're dicks. The specifics seem to vary with the nation or realm. | Undead and demons share the need for undead leadership, but are otherwise distinct categories of creatures. |
| |
| Anything an Undead being is immune to, a Demon is **also** immune to. Anything that affects the Undead only, does **not** affect Demons. Likewise, anything that affects Demons only, does **not** affect the Undead. There are also a few Demons who eat, such as Rakshasas. | |
| |
| Demons also use Undead Leadership, and also cause the -1 Morale penalty for regular troopers in their squads. It should be noted that, regardless of the number of Undead and/or Demons in the squad, the penalty is just -1; thus, a single Standard-bearer can correct it. In fact, Late Marignon has a national summon that's a Demonic Standard-bearer. | |
