Paralysis Damage

Paralysis damage is a special damage type inflicted by various effects such as the Paralyze spell and the mind blast weapons of creatures such as illithids and great olms.

The damage inflicted appears to vary with the usual DRN, but this roll is not shown1).

The number of turns of paralysis is then given by

Duration = (Paralysis damage after DRN - target size)/2

If the target was already paralysed, the creature then loses health (that is to say no DRN is involved) equal to:

Health loss = min(old duration, new duration)/2

To a maximum of 5 points of health loss from a single additional paralysis effect.

1)
This has to be the case, else a mind blast doing 10 paralysis damage would always cause a consistent number of paralysis turns, which is quite easily observed to not be the case
