Floating

A Floating unit hovers a set distance over the ground; they generally can't change this distance (unless they can fly), but still. This provides a number of curious advantages:

  • They can cross Rivers, as if they can swim. Unlike with the Swimming trait, though, this doesn't boost their performance underwater.
  • They ignore terrain penalties to Combat Speed, such as from snow on the ground or the quagmire of Swamps.
  • They automatically evade many offensive Earth spells, such as:
    • Earthquake (but not the falling stalactites in Caves)
    • Earth Grip, Earth Meld, and Maws of the Earth
    • Earth Sense
    • Earth Attack

Floating is not a particularly common trait. Ghosts have it, the Rishis of the Bandar Log have it, and jellyfish (as shown in the trait icon) have it. Fortunately, the trait can be applied by Air Enchantments and a specific Air Bless.
