"Instakills" do a ridiculous 999 damage, if they're successful. They also muscle through Luck and Twist Fate.

Most instakills are negated by high Magic Resistance. A small amount of them will still do things even if the instakill portion is negated, and some of these are also negated with Magic Resistance; when multiple parts of a spell have "Magic Resistance negates", each gets a roll.

The following spells are "instakills", in order of availability:

• Final Rest (Divine Magic of a Nature god, 1, 7 Penetration, Undead only)
• Syllable of Death (Divine Magic of a Death god, 3, Undead/Inanimate negates, 11 Penetration, requires two successful rolls)
• Banish Demon (Blood Magic 2, 1, 1, Demons only, 11 Penetration)
• Magic Duel (Evocation 3, 1, 1, Mindless negates, only hits Astral mages, may backfire)
• Bone Melter (Alteration 5, 32, 11 Penetration, nonmagical)
• Soul Slay (Thaumaturgy 5, 3, Mindless negates, 11 Penetration, overrides additional lives/forms and Immortal)
• Stream of Life (Evocation 6, 3, Undead/Inanimate negates, 11 Penetration, max 60% chance to strengthen instead)
• Disintegrate (Alteration 8, 2, 11 Penetration)
• Liquify (Alteration 8, 4, Spiritform negates, 11 Penetration)

Of these, Syllable of Death, Banish Demon, Magic Duel, Soul Slay, and Disintegrate are single-target spells. Bone Melter and Stream of Life both affect an entire square, while Final Rest and Liquify both affect more than one square. Syllable of Death and Liquify both have side effects if the instakill fails; Syllable of Death does damage before the instakill and tries to cause Fatigue afterwards, while Liquify tries to Cripple foes after the instakill attempt.
