Dragon Master

A Dragon Master is excellent at rallying Drakes to their side. Drakes are technically not Dragons, but rather Dragon-wannabes; all of them are still Animals by nature, whereas the "true" Dragons have higher self-respect and divine eligibility.

Drakes are out-of-battle Conjuration summons spread across five different magic paths; the "Five Elements", as the T'ien Ch'i mystics know them. For every point of the "Dragon Master" trait a Dragon Master has, they get one additional Drake through the summoning rituals. This is the only reasonable way to get Drakes; only one nation, Late Agartha, can technically hire some with Gold, and the Dragon Master trait doesn't apply there.

The following are Drakes:

Sprite Unit Name Special Attributes Comments
Fire Drake
Summon Fire Drake
(Conj 4, fire 22, 6firegem)
Undisciplined
Animal
Cold-Blooded
Wasteland Survival
Fire Resistance (15)
Fire Drakes are desired for their Drake Fire.
This is a "beam" weapon, dealing AOE AP Fire DMG.
(DMG = 6 + 0.5 x STR)
Other than that, they're slow, and not very durable.
Zmey
Summon Zmey
(Conj 5, fire 22, 5firegem)
Rus, Vanarus,
and Bogarus ONLY
Animal
Flying
Cold-Blooded
Mountain Survival
Fire Resistance (15)
Zmeys are shockingly-good Drakes; they have
Drake Fire, wings, and three good melee attacks.
However, they're bound to a series of factions with
Cold preference, which hinders their Encumbrance
(unless you swing hard towards Heat).
Storm Drake
Summon Storm Drake
(Conj 4, air 22, 5airgem)
Undisciplined
Animal
Flying
Storm Immunity
Cold-Blooded
Wasteland Survival
Mountain Survival
Shock Resistance (15)
Storm Drakes are known for their Drake Lightning.
This behaves like the Orb Lightning spell;
it does 2 AN Shock DMG to someone, then bounces
to neighboring foes a certain number of times.
Otherwise, they have the least HP of all Drakes,
though their DEF is among the highest.
Wyvern
Summon Wyverns (x2)
(Conj 4, air 22, 3airgem)
Animal
Flying
Cold-Blooded
Wasteland Survival
Mountain Survival
Poison Resistance (15)
Shock Resistance (15)
Wyverns do not get imitation Dragon-breath.
Their special attack is a barbed tail, which dumps
50 points of Fatigue on foes who fail an MR check…
if the tail gets through Protection, anyway.
(DMG = STR - 2, Magic Piercing)
The Fatigue is reduced by Poison Resistance.
Ice Drake
Summon Ice Drake
(Conj 4, water 22, 7watergem)
Undisciplined
Animal
Snow Move
Cold Resistance (15)
Ice Drakes are famed for their Drake Ice.
This is a "beam" weapon, dealing AOE AN Cold DMG
in two bursts, both of which can hit the same fellow.
(DMG = 0.5 x STR - 3)
Sea Serpent
Summon Sea Serpent
(Conj 4, water 22, 4watergem)
Underwater ONLY
Undisciplined
Animal
Aquatic
Poison Resistance (15)
Fear (+5)
Sea Serpents also lack imitation Dragon-breath.
Instead, they have a Magic Piercing attack,
a different attack that also deals 35 Poison DMG,
and a Dragon's AOE Tail Sweep.
The Tail Sweep is dodged in the same way one would
dodge a Trampler. (DMG = STR - 5)
They also have a Fear Aura, and substantial bulk.
UNFORTUNATELY, Sea Serpent MR is quite poor.
Cave Drake
Summon Cave Drake
(Conj 4, earth 22, 4earthgem)
Undisciplined
Animal
Cold-Blooded
Mountain Survival
Darkvision (100%)
Though Earth-type Dragons were added to Dominions 6,
Cave Drakes still lack imitation Dragon-breath.
They instead possess the best bulk of all Drakes;
they even fare better than Sea Serpents,
unless AN elemental damage is being used.
Swamp Drake
Summon Swamp Drake
(Conj 4, nature 22water 11, 5naturegem)
Swamps ONLY
Undisciplined
Animal
Cold-Blooded
Swamp Survival
Swimming
Poison Resistance (15)
Poison Barbs (5)
Swamp Drakes are known for their Drake Gas.
This is a "beam" weapon that spreads Poison Clouds.
They're also slightly above-average in melee combat,
by Drake standards; their bite has 5 extra Poison DMG,
and melee attackers take (5 - Length) Poison DMG too.
("Length" being the attacker's weapon length)

Who's a Dragon Master?

As of Dominions 6, they're 15% bigger than this The western Dragon Pretender God chassis are all Dragon Masters; to be specific, they have 1 point of the trait. For example, a Red Dragon gets two Fire Drakes at once from a casting of Summon Fire Drake, while non-Dragon-Masters get only one. These chassis also have the points in their human forms; this is a mighty boon for those looking to push their Dragon Mastery further, especially since the Magic skills of Dragons are substantially lessened in their Dragon forms.

With glamour 33 and 30glamourgem, anyone can cast the Dragon Master spell; this Ritual is found in Level 8 of the school of Enchantment, and it permanently adds 2 points of the Dragon Master trait. All sources of Dragon Master points stack, but not with themselves; you cannot re-cast Dragon Master for another 2 points, for example.

Two different Magic Items provide 1 point of the Dragon Master trait each. These are the Dragon Crown and the Dragon Sceptre. The former is forgeable starting at Level 5 of Construction, requiring water 11earth 11. The latter requires Level 7 of Construction, and fire 22.

Last-but-not-least, some games may have a single Dragon Rune, a Magic Site hidden somewhere in the world that astral 22 mages can find; anyone in the same province is considered to have 1 (extra) point of the trait, while they're there.
