MA Mictlan, Reign of the Lawgiver

"Mictlan is a nation mainly inspired by the Aztecs and their practice of blood sacrifices. The name is that of the realm of the dead in Aztec mythology. Tenochtitlan was built on a swamp, and so is the Mictlan capital, but Mictlan, particularly in the late era, is also a nation of the rainforest, closer in resemblance to the Maya. Toads are common on mural motives, but the Slann of White Wolf's Warhammer is probably an equally important source of influence on the Atlantian remaking of the Mictlan nation in the late era. Quetzalcouatl, the Lawgiver, figures in most of the Mesoamerican cultures as a returning savior figure. One could not paraphrase a Mesoamerican nation without having at least a fleeting reference to him. Mictlan is also supposed to be a backwards nation reminding us of the arrival of the technologically (and perhaps virally) advanced Europeans in the Americas." -Illwinter

Mictlan is an ancient tribal empire that has been isolated for centuries. The foul practices of the priest-kings of Mictlan have caused most of their neighbors to leave or face slavery and blood sacrifice. Since the dawn of the kingdom, blood has been spilled in the temples of the capital. Now a new era has dawned and the isolation is broken with the coming of the Lawgiver. The Blood Cult has been abolished and the priests now follow the Lawgiver. Isolation has made Mictlan a backward nation and its warriors use archaic weaponry and armor. The armies are mainly composed of slaves from newly conquered lands. The mage-priests of Mictlan celebrate the two Faces and the two Dominions of the Lawgiver, namely the Sun and the Moon, the Rain and the Forest.

Having water 44, probably from a pretender, can Summon Tlaloque. All Tlaloques have blood 33 and one of the four has death 22, but MA Mictlan already has their other paths. If a water 22 mage with the two easy to access Water boosters is used to Summon Tlaloque, the Tlaloque could be given the boosters to get to water 66.

Fire

fire 22 Sun Priest has no useful crosspaths and is the only reliable Fire mage.

The hero, Topiltzin - Priest King, has fire 22 and, with enough boosters, which are hard to get, can attempt the unique The Forbidden Light.

Air

air 22 Couatl (1 in 4) can attempt the unique Tome of High Power.

The hero, Mixcoatl - Priest King, has air 33 and can also attempt the unique Tome of High Power.

Water

No National Access. See note above about Summon Tlaloque.

Earth

No National Access. nature 33 Couatl (1 in 4) can cast Forest Troll Tribe for a 1 in 4 chance of earth 11.

Astral

MA Mictlan has quite a few Blood summons that could give it access to Death, but MA Mictlan does not have any Blood mages. A pretender with blood 33 could do it, the hero Mictlipoctli - King of Legends could do it, or a simple water 22 mage could make boosters to get to water 44 and Summon Tlaloque, who all have blood 33. And blood 33 can Contact Tlahuelpuchi for death 11.

Simpler though: nature 33 Couatl (1 in 4) can cast Forest Troll Tribe for at least death 11.

Nature

nature 33 Couatl (1 in 4) can make a Moonvine Bracelet, but the Couatl can't hold a Thistle Mace or Treelord's Staff, making it harder to get higher.

Glamour

No National Access. nature 33 Couatl (1 in 4) can cast Forest Troll Tribe for a 1 in 4 chance of glamour 11.

Blood

No Recruitable Access. The hero, Mictlipoctli - King of Legends, has blood 33 and can attempt the unique The Black Book of Secrets.

nature 55 can Awaken Treelord for a 1 in 3 chance of a stationary blood 11.
