EA Mictlan, Reign of Blood

Lore

"Mictlan is a nation mainly inspired by the Aztecs and their practice of blood sacrifices. The name is that of the realm of the dead in Aztec mythology. Tenochtitlan was built on a swamp, and so is the Mictlan capital, but Mictlan, particularly in the late era, is also a nation of the rainforest, closer in resemblance to the Maya. Toads are common on mural motives, but the Slann of White Wolf's Warhammer is probably an equally important source of influence on the Atlantian remaking of the Mictlan nation in the late era. Quetzalcouatl, the Lawgiver, figures in most of the Mesoamerican cultures as a returning savior figure. One could not paraphrase a Mesoamerican nation without having at least a fleeting reference to him. Mictlan is also supposed to be a backwards nation reminding us of the arrival of the technologically (and perhaps virally) advanced Europeans in the Americas." -Illwinter

Mictlan is an ancient tribal empire that has been isolated for centuries. The foul practices of the priest-kings of Mictlan have caused most of their neighbors to leave or face slavery and blood sacrifice. Since the dawn of the kingdom, blood has been spilled in the temples of the capital to feed the waning powers of the Hungry God. The armies are mainly composed of slaves from newly conquered lands. The mage-priests of Mictlan celebrate the two Faces and the two Dominions of the Hungry God, namely the Sun and the Moon, the Rain and the Forest. They are all skilled blood mages.

National Special Features

Turmoil limit +1
Heat limit +1
Bless Points +3

Prefers Heat Scale + 1

Restricted Dominion Spread: Your Home Province, Temples, and Prophet DO NOT passively spread Dominion, your Priests CANNOT Preach, and your Pretender passively spreads Dominion only HALF as effectively as other Pretenders.

Blood Sacrifice: Priests can sacrifice a blood slave at a temple to help extend the dominion. Blood Sacrifice isn't just a tool you can use to leverage smaller opponents: it's MANDATORY for survival, especially if your Pretender isn't present. On the other hand, waiting to spread Dominion until you NEED it spread can be helpful, if you've taken a Hellbless (and the poor Scales that come with it).

Mictlan's inhabitants are jungle humans, Size 3 beings (three-to-a-square), of average ability. For many combat stats, average humans are considered the standard for Dominions, having 10's in everything but Map Movement (14 while naked), Combat Speed (12 while naked), Encumbrance (3 while naked), and Natural Protection (zero Protection while naked). The major distinction between them and other humans is Forest Survival, which lets them move through and live in Forests as if they were Plains.

Here's some advice:
if you don't need the Nahuali's item slots, leave them as a Turkey.
Slain Turkeys will shapechange back into Nahualli, but not vice-versa.
This is because the Nahualli form has more HP.

National Item

  • Jade Knife (Construction 3)
    nature 11blood 11 and 5naturegem5bloodslave
A poor weapon that nonetheless provides Adept Sacrificer (2). This elevates the bearer's Priest level by 2 for the purpose of Blood Sacrifice, letting a priest sacrifice as many as 6 Blood Slaves (if they're a holy 44 Prophet) in a single turn for as many as 6 "Temple checks".

Magic Access

See Magic Access. These guides supplement the summaries at the top.

Fire

The best route to improve in Fire is to use a High Priest of the Sun, give it a Blood booster, and Bind Arch Devil. Then use the Devil to continue climbing.

Air

No native access except the hero, Tepeyocatl - Eagle Priest with air 11. (He'll need to be empowered to air 44.)

Water

Not surprisingly, the Rain Priest is where to start.

Earth

No native access. fire 55 can cast King of Elemental Fire with a 1 in 2 chance of earth 11.

nature 33 can cast Forest Troll Tribe with a 1 in 4 chance of earth 11.

nature 55 can cast Awaken Treelord with a 1 in 3 chance of a stationary earth 11.

Astral

The Moon Priest, with a Starshine Skullcap and a Blood booster, (potentially, the unique Tome of the Lower Planes,) might be able to make the unique The Oath Rod of Kurgi. Even without the Blood booster, the Moon Priest with a Starshine Skullcap can craft the unique Dimensional Rod. Without The Oath Rod of Kurgi, the unique Dimensional Rod, or an Astral booster from another source, a level of empowerment will be necessary.

fire 22blood 44 can Bind Arch Devil with a 1 in 4 chance of fire 33air 33.

Death

No recruitable access. The only native access are summons and the hero, Mictlipoctli - King of Legends with death 33, who, with a Death booster can create the unique The Black Book of Secrets.

water 44 can Summon Tlaloque with a 1 in 4 chance of death 22.

blood 66 can Contact Tlahuelpuchi who has death 11.

blood 77 can Contact Onaqui who has death 22, 1 in 4 chance of death 33.

Nature

Priest King is the way to start. With a Blood booster, (a High Priest of the Sun can create a Blood Thorn,) can create an Armor of Twisting Thorns. Even with a Thistle Mace and an Armor of Twisting Thorns, a level of empowerment is necessary to reach nature 55.

Glamour

No native access. nature 33 can cast Forest Troll Tribe with a 1 in 4 chance of glamour 11.

Blood

While Blood is common in EA Mictlan, it is not particularly deep. Focus on boosting The High Priest of the Sun with its blood 33. A Moon Priest with Starshine Skullcap might be able to create the unique Tome of the Lower Planes.
