EA Yomi, Oni Kings

Lore

Yomi is a land of inhospitable mountains, steaming, sulphuric pools and sudden volcanic eruptions. At the center of this unforgiving land lies a great cone-shaped mountain at the top of which is an entrance to the Netherworld. From this gate the Oni have come, one by one or in small groups. Oni are demons of the wild, ugly, pot-bellied and mischievous. They are ruled by Oni Kings who occasionally emerge from the Netherworld to wreak havoc on the land of the living. Oni are almost immortal and must be killed in spirit as well as in body if they are to stay dead. They are worshiped by human priests who build profane temple-gates through which even more Oni can enter the land

National Special Features

Income Effects: Reduced income. Halved income effects of heat and cold scales. Extra gold and resources in cave forts.

The Oni are an eclectic lot, Demons who freely enter Yomi through Temples. There are six kinds of Oni who appear for free at Temples; one is Size 2 (five-to-a-square), two are Size 3 (three-to-a-square), and three are Size 4 (two-to-a-square, plus a Size 2). The Size 3 Oni only appear in certain Temperatures, the Size 4 Oni only appear in Mountains and your capital, and the Size 2 Oni appear everywhere in far greater numbers. All Oni have a spiritual form with half their physical form's HP, in which they are considered merely Undead. All Oni are stronger in Turmoil, and in high Unrest.

The Oni employ Bakemono-sho, Size 2 goblins (five-to-a-square), as pawns. The average Bakemono-sho has 9 HP, zero Natural Protection, 9 Strength, a mere 10 Combat Speed naked, and 9's in Magic Resistance and Morale; otherwise they're pretty similar to average humans, but a lot cheaper. Notably, Bakemono-sho cost only 5 gold if hired in Mountains or in the capital. They're also Stealthy, and possess 50% Darkvision.

Last-but-not-least are the humans of Yomi; they haven't done very well here. Though Size 3 (three-to-a-square), they have only 9 HP; chalk it up to the volcanic air, or the Oni eating most of their food. Otherwise, they're average.

fire 33 Dai Oni (1 in 4) can get a Skull of Fire, a good start up the Fire path.

Air

Multiple EA Yomi mages can have air 11 but none have Astral for the only booster available before air 44, Tome of High Power. With empowerment of either a Sorcerer or Dai Oni from air 11earth 11 to air 22earth 11, it can Contact Dai Tengu. The Dai Tengu has air 33. It will still need empowerment to reach the key level of air 44.

Water

No native access. death 33 can cast Summon Spectre for a 7 in 16 chance of at least water 11.

Earth

earth 33 Dai Oni (1 in 4) doesn't have useful crosspaths but is still the best start.

Astral

No native access. earth 33death 11 can cast Hidden in Sand or Hidden Underneath for about a 3 in 4 chance of astral 11.

death 33 can cast Summon Spectre for a 7 in 16 chance of at least astral 11.

Death

death 44 Dai Oni (1 in 4) is a strong start up the path.

The hero Kyrofumi - Master of the Shadow Blossom also has death 44 and its Blood crosspath can help get The Black Book of Secrets, if the right boosters or empowerment is used to get to blood 33.

Dai Onis, with the right randoms and/or boosters can forge The Copper Arm. Useful for the Death boosters.

Nature

Only the Namanari has Nature. Death is not a useful crosspath though.

With water 22nature 11, through an indie, pretender, or some other means, Contact Nushi gives a water 33nature 22 mage to Contact Naiad. Naiads have nature 33.

With air 22earth 11 can Contact Dai Tengu for a Dai Tengu. The Dai Tengu, with Earth Boots, it might be able to craft the unique The Tome of Gaia.

Dai Onis, with the right randoms and/or boosters can forge The Copper Arm. Useful for the Nature boosters.

Glamour

No native access. earth 44 can cast Troll King's Court for glamour 11.

death 33 can cast Summon Spectre for a 7 in 16 chance of at least glamour 11.

nature 33, (hard to get,) can cast Forest Troll Tribe for a 1 in 4 chance of glamour 11.

Blood
