When Atlantis was destroyed by R'lyeh and the Atlantians scattered, some fled into the deep swamps and jungles of Mictlan. Here they found a people who worshiped the Rain as one aspect of their God. The Atlantian Kings became Kings of Rain and reshaped the faith to their needs. They found the secrets of the long abandoned Blood Cult and reinstated the foul practices of ancient times. Then the New God rose, hungry for blood. Now Mictlan is once again expanding its territories to feed the hunger of its Lord. Isolation has made Mictlan a backward nation and its warriors use archaic weaponry and armor. The armies are mainly composed of slaves from newly conquered lands. The mage-priests of Mictlan celebrate the two Faces and the two Dominions of the Hungry God, namely the Sun and the Moon, the Rain and the Forest.
"Mictlan is a nation mainly inspired by the Aztecs and their practice of blood sacrifices. The name is that of the realm of the dead in Aztec mythology. Tenochtitlan was built on a swamp, and so is the Mictlan capital, but Mictlan, particularly in the late era, is also a nation of the rainforest, closer in resemblance to the Maya. Toads are common on mural motives, but the Slann of White Wolf's Warhammer is probably an equally important source of influence on the Atlantian remaking of the Mictlan nation in the late era. Quetzalcouatl, the Lawgiver, figures in most of the Mesoamerican cultures as a returning savior figure. One could not paraphrase a Mesoamerican nation without having at least a fleeting reference to him. Mictlan is also supposed to be a backwards nation reminding us of the arrival of the technologically (and perhaps virally) advanced Europeans in the Americas." -Illwinter

Restricted Dominion Spread: Your Home Province, Temples, and Prophet DO NOT passively spread Dominion, your Priests CANNOT Preach, and your Pretender passively spreads Dominion only HALF as effectively as other Pretenders.
Blood Sacrifice: Priests can sacrifice a blood slave at a temple to help extend the dominion. Blood Sacrifice isn't just a tool you can use to leverage smaller opponents: it's MANDATORY for survival, especially if your Pretender isn't present. On the other hand, waiting to spread Dominion until you NEED it spread can be helpful, if you've taken a Hellbless (and the poor Scales that come with it).
Capture Slaves: This order causes a 1d6 + 5 number of slaves to be rounded up and forced to join the army. They are weak and cowardly soldiers but are free to recruit.

LA Mictlan has a wide variety of paths and a strong mage with the King of Rain. It's main difficulty is a lack of crosspaths. It has lots of Blood crossed with other paths, but not much else.
Summon Tlaloque summons one of four mages. They have high magic paths, but except for the one with 2 and another with
2, not only do they not open up new paths, they aren't even stronger than the mages you can recruit. What they do have, though, is crosspaths, opening up many boosters, other items, and summons.
Blood is an easy path to rise in, especially for LA Mictlan. With its variety of
Blood crosspaths, (use summons to get
), and its many
Blood mages, high levels are easy to reach. This allows for Bind Demon Lord, which gives powerful mages in all paths except for
Water, which just happens to be LA Mictlan's highest recruitable path anyway.

Allows holding extra boosters, which is expecially important for Nature and
Death.
It's a struggle, but 6 for the Ring of Sorcery, then the Ring of Wizardry, is possible. Remember, all Nahuallis can Contact Couatl,
3 mages.
The Staff of Elemental Mastery and Crown of the Elements Unique are difficult to get. The Tlaloque of the South, only needs two Fire boosters to make them. Getting the two boosters is tricky.
